About Maps of Movies

Maps of Movies puts two maps of every film into one. Open circles mark where the story says the action happens; filled circles mark where the scenes were really shot, and a curve joins each pair. So you can see, for example, that a film set in one city was shot in another, and plan a visit to the real spot. The map now holds 1183 films, each divided into its key scenes.

Pick a film in the list to see its scenes in order. Tap a scene to show its story place and its filming spots on the map, switch between the story route and the filming route, replay the 3D view, or open the split view to compare both maps side by side. Use “By city” to browse every film set or shot in one place, and “Favorites” to keep your own shortlist. Every place says how to get there, and imprecise spots are marked “approx.” or “city only”.

Every coordinate comes with a source, and invented places are marked as fictional. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and other openly licensed sources, with the author and licence shown beside each one. Base maps are © OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenFreeMap.
