On October 28, 2003, Mark Zuckerberg, a 19-year-old Harvard sophomore, is dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright. The breakup is what sends him back to his dorm and into the stunt that starts everything.

The dorm and Facemash (2003)

Back in his dorm, Zuckerberg writes an insulting post about Erica on his LiveJournal blog. He then hacks house face books and builds Facemash, a site that lets visitors rate female students. Traffic crashes parts of Harvard's network and he gets six months of academic probation.

After narrowly losing the 2004 Henley Royal Regatta for Harvard to the Hollandia Roeiclub, the Winklevoss twins learn that Facebook has spread to Oxford, Cambridge and LSE. They decide to sue for intellectual property theft.

On Sean Parker's advice, Zuckerberg moves the company to Palo Alto while Saverin stays in New York to work on business development. Parker moves into the house and gets more involved, much to Saverin's annoyance.
