Scenes and places

Chained in Surtur's cave (2017)

Thor, caged and talking to a skeleton, tells how he searched the cosmos for the Infinity Stones. Brought before the fire demon Surtur, who vows to destroy Asgard, he breaks free to fight.

Set in Muspelheim — A fiery realm where Thor is caged and faces the fire demon Surtur.

An invented realm of fire, named after the Norse myth.

Thor comes home to a changed Asgard (2017)

Thor returns by the Bifrost and finds Heimdall gone and Skurge in charge of the bridge. He learns the rule of the realm has changed and the king is not as he seems.

Set in Asgard — The golden home of the gods, reached by the Bifrost.

An invented realm; the film's Asgard set is in Queensland, Australia.

Filmed at Village Roadshow Studios, Oxenford, Gold Coast (Village Roadshow Studios, Oxenford, Gold Coast, Australia) — The outdoor Asgard set was built here, took about four months and roughly 450 construction workers, and the film used all nine sound stages. The backlot held an Asgard piazza set and a Sakaar street set on about 2.5 acres; the Sakaar palace was on Stage 9 (about 40,000 square feet). Google Maps · Apple Maps

The alley in New York (2017)

Thor and Loki land in a New York street hunting for their father. They are told he was left on a sidewalk near a building under demolition, then sent to a Master of the Mystic Arts.

Set in New York alley — A New York street where Thor and Loki land hunting for their father, left on a sidewalk near a building under demolition. Google Maps · Apple Maps

A New York side street; no exact address is given in the film.

Filmed at Brisbane CBD, doubling for New York (Central business district, Brisbane, Australia) — Brisbane's city centre doubled for New York on August 22-25, 2016. One travel blog names Esk Lane, a small alley off Mary Street; the exact street is unclear. Filming ran four days and the main streets were closed for five days; Mary, Albert and Margaret Streets were closed, and one report puts Monday-morning filming at the Margaret and Albert corner. How to get there: Brisbane city centre; Mary Street is in the CBD. The marker is the city's centre point, not the street.

Odin at the cliff edge (2017)

Thor and Loki find Odin at a cliff edge. He warns of a threat he can no longer hold back.

Set in Norway cliff — A cliff-top field where Thor and Loki find Odin.

The scene was moved to Norway during the July 2017 reshoots; where it was actually filmed is not stated in the sources checked.

Hela on the Bifrost (2017)

Hela arrives and fights the brothers. They are thrown out into space from the Bifrost.

An invented place; the film's Bifrost is the bridge between Asgard and other worlds.

Hela takes Asgard (2017)

Hela reaches Asgard and takes control of the city. She says Odin's empire was built on conquest and faces Skurge and the Asgardians in the palace halls.

Set in Asgard, after Hela's arrival — The same city, now ruled by Hela.

The same invented city; this storyline cuts back and forth with Sakaar, so its place in the order is approximate.

Filmed at Village Roadshow Studios, Oxenford, Gold Coast (Village Roadshow Studios, Oxenford, Gold Coast, Australia) — Same Asgard set as the earlier Asgard scenes. Google Maps · Apple Maps
