Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Where Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker says it takes place, and where it was really shot.

Almost nothing here is a real place: a Jordanian desert, an English hill and a studio stand in for a galaxy.

Scenes and places

The Emperor's hidden world

Kylo Ren follows a Sith wayfinder to the hidden world of Exegol and finds Palpatine waiting. The old Emperor claims to have been the voice behind Snoke and the First Order, and offers Ren a vast armada if he hunts down Rey.

Set in Exegol — A hidden planet where Kylo Ren finds Palpatine, who offers him a fleet if he does one thing.

A fictional hidden Sith world; no source in hand says which real set or location stood in for it.

The desert chase

Rey, Finn and Poe land on the desert world of Pasaana, following Luke's cold trail to a Sith wayfinder. With Lando Calrissian's help they search for the ship of a Sith hunter named Ochi, while Kylo Ren and the First Order close in.

Set in Pasaana — A desert planet in the Middian system where Rey's group seeks a clue to a Sith wayfinder.

In the film, a desert world of canyons and sinking sand; on screen it is Jordan's red desert.

Filmed at Wadi Rum, Jordan (Wadi Rum Protected Area, Wadi Rum, Jordan) — The desert planet Pasaana was filmed in the Wadi Rum desert; the cast and crew spent about three weeks there. The exact spots within the valley are not given. Google Maps · Apple Maps

How to get there: Wadi Rum is a protected desert area in southern Jordan; visitors usually join a jeep or camel tour from Wadi Rum Village.

The black-market droidsmith

The group goes to Kijimi to have the droidsmith Babu Frik read the wayfinder's coordinates out of C-3PO's memory. When Rey senses that Chewbacca is still alive, aboard Kylo Ren's Star Destroyer, the heist turns into a rescue.

Set in Kijimi — A crowded world under First Order patrols, home of a black-market droidsmith.

A fictional world under First Order patrols; none of the pages opened names a real filming location for it.

The wreck on the ocean moon

Rey follows the coordinates to the ocean moon of Kef Bir and searches the wreckage of the second Death Star for the wayfinder. Kylo Ren is already there to stop her, and their duel here changes what each of them does next.

Set in Kef Bir — An ocean moon of Endor where the wreckage of the second Death Star lies.

In the film, the sea-swept ruin of the old Death Star; the only real-world place named for it is a single hill in England.

Filmed at Ivinghoe Beacon, Buckinghamshire (Ivinghoe Beacon, Chilterns, Ivinghoe, United Kingdom) — The rolling hills where the Millennium Falcon lands on Kef Bir were filmed here; the sea and the wreckage were added digitally. Google Maps · Apple Maps

How to get there: Ivinghoe Beacon is a hilltop on the Chilterns ridge in Buckinghamshire, reached on foot along the Ridgeway path.

Back to Luke's island

Rey withdraws to Ahch-To, the island where she once trained, shaken and unsure whether to face Palpatine. There she finds the push she needs to go on to Exegol.

Set in Ahch-To — The remote island world where Luke Skywalker lived in exile.

In the film, the island world from the previous film; none of the pages opened says this film shot there.
