Scenes and places

Jasmine's gilded cage (1992)

Jasmine feels shut in by the palace and decides to slip out in disguise. Her escape sets the whole story going.

Set in Sultan's palace, Agrabah — Princess Jasmine is unhappy with her sheltered life behind the palace walls.

The palace is drawn with Mughal architecture, while the surrounding land looks like the Arabian Desert.

Aladdin steps in when Jasmine gets in trouble in the market, and the two quickly connect. Neither knows who the other really is, and the guards are already after her.

Set in Agrabah marketplace — Aladdin rescues Jasmine from an altercation in the marketplace and the two develop a bond.

Agrabah replaced Baghdad as the setting because the Gulf War stopped the filmmakers from travelling there to research.

Locked up by the vizier (1992)

Guards take Aladdin to the dungeon just as he learns she is the princess. Jasmine orders his release, but the guards answer only to Jafar.

Set in Palace dungeon, Agrabah — Jafar has the palace guards capture and imprison Aladdin, who learns Jasmine's identity.

Prison-like walls and bars of the Agrabah palace are used visually to show how the characters are confined.

Into the Cave of Wonders (1992)

Jafar needs the one person the cave will let in, and that is Aladdin. The cave's guardian lets him enter on one condition, and Abu's greed breaks it.

Set in Cave of Wonders — Jafar disguises himself as an elderly beggar, frees Aladdin and Abu and orders them to retrieve the lamp from the cave.

Computer animation was used for the tiger entrance of the Cave of Wonders and for Aladdin's escape from the collapsing cave.

Trapped underground (1992)

Abandoned underground, Aladdin finds out Abu still has the lamp. He rubs it, and the Genie appears with three wishes.

Set in Underground chamber, Cave of Wonders — Jafar throws the pair into the cave, and while they are trapped underground Aladdin rubs the lamp and the Genie emerges.

Frank Welker voices the Cave of Wonders as well as Abu and Rajah.

A ride on the magic carpet (1992)

Now posing as Prince Ali, Aladdin takes Jasmine up on the carpet. She works out he is the boy from the market, and he lies to cover it.

Set in Palace balcony and night sky, Agrabah — Aladdin takes Jasmine on a romantic ride on the carpet.

The main palace is inspired by Mughal architecture.

Thrown into the sea (1992)

On the way home, Jafar's guards ambush Aladdin and throw him into the water. The Genie saves him with the second wish.

Set in The sea off Agrabah — Jafar's guards ambush Aladdin and throw him into the sea, where the Genie uses Aladdin's second wish to rescue him.

The location is unspecified in the film; it is only a stretch of water on the way back to the palace.

Sent to the frozen wasteland (1992)

With the lamp in his hands, Jafar uses his wishes to seize power and banishes Aladdin far away. Aladdin has to get back using the carpet.

Set in Frozen wasteland — Jafar, now master of the Genie, sends Aladdin to a frozen wasteland.

The location is unspecified in the film; it is far from Agrabah.
